Registration Opportunities.
Our second Registration Sunday offers another chance for non-members to meet members and to get some coaching and play friendly tennis games on Sunday 13th May. Children’s lessons are from 10-12 with a men’s handicap singles competition from 12-2pm. Lisa is also holding a free coaching session for men from 2-4pm.
Registration for new and existing members will continue Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.30pm until 9.30pm. Existing members are reminded that all fobs will be deactivated from May 6th for those who have not renewed their membership.
Junior Tennis
Following next Sunday's junior session (all welcome), the club plans to run a midweek junior league one evening each week. This will start shortly: information from Lisa, Clem or Derek.
Summer Leagues
Jeremy Clarke and Jimmy Raleigh were the first to notch up victories in the summer singles league which started last week. All matches must be completed by 14th June 2018. As usual the pyramids will be revised after the league on a two up, two down basis. All matches are best of three sets, the third set may be a 'match tie-break'. All results must be entered on the sheets posted in the clubhouse. No walkovers allowed.

Men’s Doubles Spring League
Martin O'Rourke and Marek Rose were the winners, adding four points each to their collection, last Monday. Kieron McCarthy and Dave Costello, in second place, collected three points each. Des Windsor McGlynn and Jimmy Raleigh were happy with two points while Rob Kearney and Atin Kohli were awarded the minimum to their total. This league will finish run onMonday 7th May with top spot still up for grabs with Martin O'Rourke and Des Windsor McGlynn the front-runners.
Coaching
Clem started coaching for junior members on Saturday 5th May with dozens of kids enjoying fun tennis on a beautiful sunny morning. This continues every Saturday: children ages 4-7 have lessons from 10 to 11 o clock, children 8-12 at 11 o clock and teenagers up to 18 years from 12 to 1 o clock. Lisa continues coaching every Saturday. Coaching is for adult members and for adults who wish to come along and participate in the tennis lessons. Interested persons may contact Lisa at 0862215843 for further details.
Ladies’/Men’s Doubles Competition
The men’s and ladies doubles competitions will be held from Monday 14th to Thursday 17th May. Members may register for these competitions in the usual manner. The men’s competition will be run off Monday 14th and the ladies will be played Tuesday 15th with the top four combinations from each evening playing in the finals on Thursday.
Annual Athlone/Loughrea Challenge
Our annual friendly competition against Loughrea tennis club will be held on Sunday 27th May. This year we will be travelling to Loughrea. This is the eight year of the event with the crystal trophy currently residing in Loughrea, however we will be striving to bring it back to Athlone and even up the shared years at four each.
Club Nights
Martin O'Rourke and Marek Rose combined to take the honours last Monday evening. The ladies competed strongly as usual during Tuesday’s session. Laura O'Cluaid and John Cooney were a winning partnership in the mixed doubles event last Thursday. Play begins at 7.30 and new members are most welcome to visit our club any of the nights and play some games.
West of Ireland Open
Lisa Brennan and Paula Dowling represented the club in this event and advanced to the quarter-final before losing unluckly 11-9 in a third set tie-break. We look forward to more open championships over the next three months.
