Summer Camp

Annual senior Open Competitions
Fine weather during the past week ensured that exceptional tennis was played and enjoyed by players and spectators in our annual open competitions, culminating in ten finals, last Sunday afternoon. It was an afternoon of superb tennis both on the four courts and on the big screen in the clubhouse. All competitors had to endure excessive temperatures, many spectators basked in the glorious sunshine while others observed proceedings from any shade available. All present, players and spectators, made many forays into the clubhouse, thirst quenching being the main excuse but the real reason was to observe and be part of a truelly engrossing, absorbing and historic tennis match by two of the greatest tennis combatants that we are lucky to witness.
All during the week, from six every evening until late, Martin and Harry O’ Rourke were the heart beat of the club, organising matches and ensuring the smooth running of all the competitions. Suffice to say they did the club some service, Martin organising the on court events while Harry was most proficient with the on line and technical updates. It would be remiss not to mention and thank Jacinta Digby, procurer of the many prizes and the many committee and club members who made sure no one went without the necessary refreshments during the long week and on finals day.

Men’s, Ladies’, Mixed Doubles Nights
Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights are very important for members who wish to play and enjoy regular, friendly, competitive tennis all year round. Men have exclusive rights to the courts every Monday, ladies enjoy the same rights every Wednesday while tme mixed doubles are enjoyed by both sexes every Thursday.
Longford Open
The Longford is on all this week and the following are travelling to compete, Laura Hunt, Rose Costello, Carmel Hayes, Richard Frank, Jimmy Raleigh, Kieran Mc Carthy, Tim and Jeremy Clarke, Sean Rafter, Conor Jones, Harry O’ Rourke, Lukasz Mierzwa and Dave Costello. Junior Coaching
Clem continues coaching sessions every Saturday starting at 10am for children 4 to 8 years old. At 11 he coaches children ages 9 to 12 and from 12 he coaches older children. Please contact Clem at 0864022490 for further details.
