Summer Camps
We have two summer camps this year, the first starting Monday 13th July and the second starting Monday 27th July. The camps start at 10am and continue until 1pm for five days. To book a place or more information contact Clem Higginbotham 0864022490.
Athlone Senior Open
Our senior open draw will be made this Friday at 6pm. Play will commence Sunday evening and will continue for the week with 13 finals to be completed on Sunday 12th. The ladies and men’s singles will cater for 4 classes, A, B, C and over 45’s. The ladies and men’s doubles will cater for class A and B. The mixed doubles will have players of ability A, B and C.
The official forms for these competitions are now in the clubhouse.
Midland Leagues
The Midland Tennis Leagues will start in the week commencing 20th July with players from the midlands able to play in six different divisions.
Members interested playing in these friendly competitive competitions should register their names on the form in the clubhouse.
Athlone won division 3 just once. In 1994 the winning team members were Mary O’ Neill, Jacinta Digby, Michael King and Dave Costello.
We won division 4 twice in 2012 and 2013. The 2012 victorious team was Michele Culligan, Orla Kinahan, Richard Frank and Des Windsor Mc Glynn. The winning team in 2013 was Georgina Colohan, Melanie Whyte, P J O’ Reilly and John Harkins.
Senior Summer Leagues
The presentation of prizes for the winners and runners up of the ladies and men’s summer leagues will take place this Thursday evening at 9.30pm. Paula Dowling and Pawel Michalski have won group A of their respective leagues and will have the honour of topping both pyramids.
The results of the last few matches will determine the runner up positions and players to be promoted and relegated.
Social Tennis
Mark Bass and Evan Conway were the formidable pairing last Monday and won many of their matches during the couple of hour’s tennis.
Sarah Seoige and Sine Mac Farlane played exceptional tennis on Tuesday evening last.
Deborah Mc Keown and Michael Doheny were the winning couple on Thursday, both combining well.
Coaching
Clem Higginbotham continues coaching lessons for junior members every Saturday. The lessons begin at 10 for children under 8, at 11 for under 12 and at 12 o’ clock for over 12 years of age. His contact number is 0864022490.
