Junior Club Championships
The boys and girls junior club championships will be played on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd for age groups under 10, 12, 14 16 and 18. There will also be doubles events under 14 and 18. All members interested in playing should register their names on the official form in the clubhouse or text Martin O’ Rourke 0872451486.
Senior Club Championships
The senior club championships will commence from Monday 7th September and there will be the ladies and men’s singles, ladies and men’s doubles and mixed doubles events. In the doubles events draws for partners will be made on the usual criteria. Interested competitors should sign up on the official form in the clubhouse by Thursday 3rd September.
Court Maintenance
All the court surfaces have been power hosed and re-sanded over the past two weeks and are playable again. They are in great condition and there is consistency throughout.
Midland Leagues
Division 3
Athlone 1 and Athlone 2 are competing against each other this Wednesday in an eagerly anticipated competitive division 3 league match. A draw would suit both teams as three teams from each section will qualify for the quarter finals. However the winning teams will be into the semi-finals.
Orla Kinahan, Michele Culligan, Ricard Frank and Des Windsor McGlynn will be opposing Paula Dowling, Anne Dooley, Tomasz Koza and Luciano Molinari.
Division 5
Athlone ladies will travel to play Roscrea this week and Julie and Rose Costello, Mary Jo O’ Farrell and Olivia Sumner will be hoping to win on their tarmacadam courts.
Social Tennis
Sean Raftery and Tomasz Koza are playing great tennis lately and last Monday they were in exceptional form.
Julie Costello and Paula Dowling were prominent on the courts last Tuesday and were the happiest at 9.30pm.
Jacinta Digby and Christy Tibuh were a winning combination during Thursday’s series of matches.
Coaching
Clem Higginbotham continues coaching lessons for junior members every Saturday. The lessons begin at 10 for children under 8, at 11 for under 12 and at 12 o’ clock for older children. His contact number is 0864022490.
