Athlone Tennis Club consists of 3 floodlit all weather surface tennis courts with the latest 'state of the art' artificial clay surfaces.
The club moved to its new centre on December 15th 2023 with the official opening in January 2024. A brand new 'modular' A-rated clubhouse completes this phase of the exciting development for the club and the town.
The next phase is for a further three courts under a Dome giving six courts in all, three indoor and three outdoor.

How Athlone Tennis Club Benefits You
4 Floodlight All Weather Courts: We have 4 all-weather courts providing ample opportunities for our members to play from early morning until 10 pm.
Web Site: athlonetennisclub.com provides a weekly news report on club activities, up- coming leagues and competitions etc.
On Line Booking: Members can book a court from the comfort of home which can also be easily cancelled if a member cannot fulfil due to some reason.
WhatsApp: Our club have a members WhatsApp Group for general information, also a ladies’ group and a men’s group, the latter two groups are ideal for arranging matches.
Club Nights: Your club have organised club night competitions, from 7.30 until 9.30, men compete every Monday, ladies play every Wednesday, mixed doubles are every Thursday, Sunday mornings are also mixed doubles events, from 11 until 1pm. All members are welcome to participate in these events as applicable.
Annual Mixed Doubles Competition: Every May members participate in this week long competition. The Tournaments Committee grade the entries so that the pairing are reasonable competitive.
Annual Ladies’ & Men’s Doubles Competition: This is a June event and once again the Tournaments Committee arrange the teams to ensure a competitive competition.
Organised Leagues: The Tournaments Committee organise spring, summer and autumn leagues for all who wish to participate. These leagues are based on a member’s position on the pyramids. The leagues are usually organised in groups of 6, each player playing the other 5 in the group. These leagues cater for all members according to ability with promotion and demotion for the top 2 and bottom 2 in each respectively.
Junior/Ladies’/Men’s Ladders: The ladders are for members who wish to play at a more competitive level. Members may challenge players up to three places ahead of them. There are other conditions which are well published on the website and club noticeboard.
Coaching Sessions: Lisa Brennan and Clem Higginbotham organise coaching sessions for children, teenagers and adults. We also organise and run two summer camps during July.
Senior Open Competitions: Clubs across the Midlands and further afield associate our open competitions with Wimbledon final week. We organise competitions for Class A, B and C players plus the doubles events culminating in very exciting finals Sunday afternoon. The finals, plus the men’s televised Wimbledon final in the clubhouse, ensures that there is a terrific atmosphere around the club all afternoon.
Junior Club Championships: These championships are held every August. There are cup events for girls and boys for under10, 12, 14 16 and 18, plus some doubles competitions also.
Senior Club Championships: The senior club championships are run off over three weeks in September. The events are ladies’ and men’s singles, ladies’, men’s and mixed doubles competitions plus The Ida Smith and Dave Costello Cups, the former cup is for new/ beginner members. All first times beaten players may enter the plate events, they have at least two matches.
Midland League Competitions: These competitions arerun off during the summer months. There are up to six divisions and teams are generally 2 ladies and 2 men, ample opportunities for all class of players to compete. Many clubs from the midlands compete in the competitions.
Inter Club Competitions: Members are informed on all inter club competitions and are encouraged to support these events. The most popular are Longford, Mullingar, Tullamore, Moate, Birr and Loughrea Opens, members also travel much further to Open competitions.
Denis Johnston Memorial Cup: This competition is organised by Mullingar TC in honour of Michael Johnston. Teams from Athlone, Longford and Cavan and Athlone are usually the invited teams. Current holders, Athlone, have won the trophy thrice, Mullingar twice and Longford once.
Annual Athlone V Loughrea Friendly Event: This competition has been organised for the past 9 years, 4 wins for Athlone and 3 for Loughrea. This event is held every April but COVID 19 disrupted this friendly meet for the past two years.
